About Rachel Biale

I have been making custom-made ketubot for about thirty years. Over the years I have made many personalized ketubot, birth announcements and modified ketubot celebrating wedding anniversaries, along with pursuing first my university education and then my "day jobs." I work closely with each couple to co-create a ketubah that tells their story in images, motifs and colors. I try to foster a collaboration between the couples' imagination and taste and my own artistic eye and hands.

I was born and raised in Kibbutz Kfar Ruppin in Israel and received my BA and MA in Jewish History from UCLA and Masters of Social Work from Yeshiva University. In 1984, I published Women and Jewish Law (Schocken Books) which is now considered a standard text in the field. I have also written two books for parents and children in a series titled "Let's Make a Book about It:" My Pet Died and We Are Moving.

I worked for ten years as a clinician for Jewish Family and Children's Services of the East Bay and presently oversee Jewish cultural programming as Director of Community Education at the Osher Marin Jewish Community Center. In addition, for the last twenty years, I have had a private practice counseling parents by phone. I live in Berkeley, California with my husband, David Biale. We have two grown children, Noam and Tali.
